QR Code Attendance Portal

Teachers show a QR code for each lecture and students mark attendance by scanning it; reports per subject and student.

What you build

A web portal where a teacher opens a lecture and shows a QR code that changes every few seconds. Students scan it with their phone to mark attendance, and the portal produces attendance reports.

Modules

  • Teacher and student login
  • Lecture creation and a time-limited QR code
  • Attendance marking from the scanned link
  • Subject-wise and student-wise reports with export to CSV

What you will understand

  • How QR codes carry a link and why the code should expire
  • Preventing proxy attendance with time-limited tokens
  • Generating reports with SQL GROUP BY

How it is tested

  • Scanning an expired code, scanning twice and scanning from a different account
  • Checking report totals against the raw records

What goes in the report

  • Existing system and its problems
  • System design and table structure
  • Test cases and screenshots

Viva questions to prepare

  • How do you stop a student from sharing the QR code with a friend?
  • Why does the code expire?
  • How are percentages calculated?
