Blockchain-Based Certificate Verification

Colleges record a hash of each certificate on a blockchain so employers can verify it has not been forged.

What you build

A system where a college issues a certificate and stores its fingerprint (hash) on a blockchain test network. Anyone can upload a certificate to check whether it is genuine and unchanged.

Modules

  • Smart contract (Solidity) to store and look up certificate hashes
  • College portal to issue certificates
  • Public verification page
  • Revocation of a wrongly issued certificate

What you will understand

  • What a hash is and why changing one letter changes it completely
  • What a smart contract is and what it costs to run
  • Why only the hash goes on the chain, not personal data

How it is tested

  • Verifying an original, an edited and a revoked certificate
  • Smart contract tests for who is allowed to issue

What goes in the report

  • Problem of fake certificates
  • Architecture and smart contract design
  • Test results and cost analysis

Viva questions to prepare

  • Why use a blockchain instead of a normal database?
  • What if the college's key is stolen?
  • Why store only the hash?
